Hi-Fi acoustics emphasize the emotions of any piece of music. Such a system is capable of highlighting the accents of not only instruments, but also human voices. Acoustics of this level will do what even the most high-end audio system, which will only transmit audio material, will be unable to do.

It’s probably not worth writing about the advantages of Hi-Fi acoustics. This is already clear. In most cases, such acoustics are the lot of ardent music lovers and audiophiles with keen hearing.

Every high-quality sound system starts with good power. In most cases, little attention is paid to this part, but in HiFi systems everything is different, since it is really important. In automotive networks, the voltage under load from different consumers can vary from 12 to 15 volts. If you smoothly change the voltage while listening to music, you will hear a noticeable difference without any equipment.

One of the signs of a good audio system in a car is that the sound remains consistent even with voltage fluctuations. This can be achieved using special power rectifiers:

• Helix XXL;
• Bewith Accurate A50-A.

Capacitors, in turn, smooth out load peaks.

All modern cars are equipped with an electric generator, the performance of which is sufficient to operate simple speaker systems, but when installing a Hi-Fi system, you need to take into account that the generator performance and system consumption can reach several hundred amperes at peak load. In addition to the acoustic system itself, a correctly selected generator is very important for other systems of the machine. A universal solution is offered by the American company Mechman, which sells generators with a rating of up to 320 A. They allow you to avoid the so-called energy starvation.

All the rules listed below are relevant for any car sound systems, but if in inexpensive systems you neglect these rules and nothing changes, then in Hi-Fi systems they must be strictly adhered to. Power cables are the arteries and veins of speaker systems. Through them, electric current flows to the amplifiers. Imagine that when building a house, mistakes were made at the stage of laying the plumbing system. In this case, the water either does not reach the upper floors or breaks the pipes. This also happens when there are mistakes in choosing power cables for amplifiers. A properly selected section will protect you from such problems:

1. Loss of sound quality. Insufficient cross-section increases the resistance of the conductor, as a result of which the voltage at the amplifier terminals decreases. At the same time, the coefficient of nonlinear distortion of the amplifier increases.
2. In the worst case scenario, the security of your installation may be compromised. High resistance leads to intense heating of the cable, causing damage to the insulation and short circuit.

Thus, when creating Hi-Fi speaker systems, you need to choose power wires. The choice of section depends on factors such as:

• the material the cable is made of;
• length of cable;
• amplifier power;
• power of other consumers supplied via this cable.

Basic nuances of Hi-Fi acoustics

Below are the main parameters that you need to pay attention to when building Hi-Fi or Hi-End automotive systems.

It should be given great importance. And in particular:

• Proper nutrition is the first thing to consider. So, if in 90 percent of cases this parameter is given insufficient importance when building conventional systems, in this case everything will have to be done differently. So, most people know that the voltage in car audio is unstable. It is constantly changing due to the load on consumers of various kinds, including the components of the speaker system themselves. The voltage can vary from 12 to 15 V.

Note. To understand the difference, just listen to music and try to artificially change the voltage from 12 to 15 V. What will happen? The answer is clear: there will be a huge difference.

So it turns out like this:

• For Hi-Fi acoustics, constant and stable voltage is very important. If this is not observed, sound changes will occur;
• To solve the problem of voltage drop, special power rectifiers were invented at one time (Helix XXL stations and others), as well as capacitors (see Why a capacitor is needed for car audio today), which effectively smooth out load peaks.

Note. Proof of this is a test that can be carried out independently. It will be necessary to measure the impulse noise directly after the battery under the influence of the generator. Then repeat the measurement, but after the rectifier. Ripple will be completely eliminated and we will have a stable power supply free of noise.

Car hi-fi acoustics

• The role of the generator is also very important. Thus, it is known that all cars use electric generators. But, as a rule, the performance of these generators is only enough to provide energy to simple audio systems.

Note. A hi-fi system will definitely require another generator, for example, such as the American Mechman with a rating of up to 320 A. Such a generator allows not only to provide normal power, but also to avoid the so-called “electrical famine” that occurs in all machines.

• The only source of power for the sound system in a car when the engine is not running is the battery. The new battery will hold a charge normally, but the old one is unlikely to. It is enough to load it well and problems will begin;
• Finally, power cables, also related to the power supply system, play an important role in the construction of Hi-Fi. If in economical speakers you can neglect the rules regarding cables, then for hi-fi acoustics you will definitely have to take care of this.

Note. Power wires for Hi-Fi acoustics are like pipes for a residential building. If you choose the wrong diameter, the pipes will either burst or the water will not reach the upper floors of the building. The same is the case with power wires for the amplifier.

Hi-Fi car acoustics and cable selection

Here are the dangers of incorrect selection of wires:

• Losses in sound quality are inevitable (and this does not correspond to the hi-fi level);
• If the wire cross-section is less than normal, this will cause high conductor resistance. Because of this, the voltage at the amplifier terminals may drop;
• The security level of the installation may be reduced. It is known that increased resistance heats up the cable, and this leads to a short circuit.

It is very important to correctly and competently select wires for Hi-Fi acoustics. The choice itself may depend not on one, but on several factors, such as cable length, material, amplifier power, etc.

No Hi-Fi acoustics will play normally in a car that has not been properly sound and vibration insulated. Even the most budget acoustics require noise, and in the case of Hi-Fi, generally speaking.

It probably goes without saying that incorrectly installed acoustics will not do anything good. To get the most out of acoustics, you need to carry out a high-quality installation.

Even when building an economical acoustic system, the noise and vibration insulation procedure cannot be neglected. All work must begin with it. This is especially true for volumes played by speakers – car doors. This is required to reduce vibration of the panels, which distort the sound. As a bonus, the overall noise level in the cabin is reduced. It is important to note that a high-quality midbass is good when it is securely attached to the metal of the door, and the metal ensures high rigidity of the speaker mounting.

It is important to consider what materials are used when carrying out noise and vibration insulation, since the result of the treatment greatly depends on this. For example, when using soundproofing materials that are intended for construction, the window regulator may deteriorate. In addition, the noise absorption effect will be significantly lower than when using special materials.

When designing Hi-Fi audio systems, the requirements for noise insulation increase, and standard procedures are not enough. Instead of a special vibroplast, in this case a special material is used, which is laid using an industrial hair dryer and, when hardened, becomes six times stiffer than it was originally.

Also, high-end acoustic systems require minimizing extraneous noise when listening and anti-creaking treatment of doors with their disassembly.
