Component acoustics: good sound for reasonable money

Music in a car showroom is a common occurrence. Owners try to choose powerful radios for high-quality sound of tracks, forgetting that component acoustics – the sound reproduction system – should be the best. Car speakers may vary in design and quality. For example, there is a coaxial type of system - the most popular and easier to install. At its base there is a speaker with low-frequency sound, as well as heads for other frequencies. The sound from these speakers is average. The second type of system is component. It consists of mid- and high-frequency speakers that are excellent in sound and clarity. It's a little more complicated to set up, but the sound is ultimately better and richer. The rating includes only the best component car audio systems according to the Mark.guru portal.

Product selection

To make your purchase a joy and pleasantly respond with sound notes, you should know about some selection criteria:
✅Stripes - are responsible for the sound quality and frequency of music from the speakers. The standard speaker system has 2 bands, but for higher quality reproduction there is also four-way equipment. ✅Manufacturing material. The best are considered to be wooden devices with silk tweeters. It is better to buy low-frequency speakers on pressed cardboard or paper. Particular attention should be paid to the presence of protective impregnation. The dome is preferably made of titanium, but the magnet should be made of neodymium - this will ensure good endurance. ✅Power. There is a nominal and maximum indicator. The first is a permanent working option for the speakers, and the second allows you to connect amplifiers and bass. The difference between the indicators should not be more than 3 times. Standard power is 50-150 W. ✅Size and shape. There are round, square and oval bases. Columns can be 13 cm, 16 or more. Small ones are sometimes more powerful and have better sound quality. ✅Manufacturer. You need to pay attention only to proven brands. ✅Cost. Can vary from 2100 to 30,000 rubles.

What speakers should I put in my car?

  • Power . Do not pay attention to the maximum numbers stated on the box. The power rating (RMS) is important . If you plan to connect the speakers directly to the head unit, then this parameter is not so important. If the system is based on an amplifier, then it is worth choosing more powerful speakers. But in accordance with the parameters of the amplifier.
  • Sensitivity . In this case, the equivalent of volume. The larger it is, the louder specific speakers will play . But it is worth considering that it should be calculated in dB per 1 W at a distance of 1 m. If the manufacturer considers it somehow differently (or it is simply not indicated), then you should trust this parameter with “assumptions”.
  • Impedance (resistance) . It is of particular importance, again, when connected to an amplifier. If the speaker has a resistance less than the minimum required by the amplifier, then there is a high probability of damage to the components.
  • Frequency response . A person hears from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Accordingly, a complete system should ideally “cover” this entire range. And other nuances depend on the role of a particular column in a particular system.

But if the range of 35-40 Hz is indicated on a 10 cm speaker, this is a reason to think about the honesty of the manufacturer. Physics has not been canceled: such a speaker can reproduce these frequencies, only so quietly that they will be almost inaudible.

  • Diffuser material . The best is still paper (cellulose) or pressed cardboard. Be sure to have a protective impregnation; these materials are sensitive to moisture. But there are other high-quality and widespread options (for example, polypropylene). Tweeters mainly use silk and metal. Silk is preferable (less parasitic “ringing”).
  • Suspension material . The suspension is the mount for the diffuser. It is best if it is made of a rubber-like material. Fabric is not advisable.

Which speakers (speakers) are best to put in a car without an amplifier and with it?

The main thing when choosing car acoustics is to decide on its type.

The type is determined, in general terms, by a combination of price, quality and dimensions. There are 3 of them. It cannot be said that there is definitely the best and definitely the worst; rather, they have different use cases.

Component speakers for the car

Component car speakers offer the best sound quality, but also a fairly high price . Component speaker sets usually consist of several speakers. Or, to paraphrase, several stripes.

Component speaker logic: separate speakers for different frequency ranges . That is, one emitter is responsible for the low frequency, a second for the midrange, and a third for the high frequency. But most often you can find two-way systems on the market.

The most common type - it is also the minimum for building a component system - is a speaker (usually a midrange or midbass, however, these concepts are often synonymous) and a tweeter (“tweeter”). In addition to them, the kit must include a crossover that allows you to adjust the frequency separation.

If there are 2 emitters, then the three main sound bands (LF, MF and HF) must be divided into 2. The proportions depend on the manufacturer, crossover and settings.

Component speakers, which is logical, take up quite a lot of space in a car . After all, you need to place several speakers. But it is precisely these car speakers that, when properly installed and configured, will give the best sound. Ideally, these are not only the front doors and tweeters, but also the rear and subwoofer.

Coaxial car speakers

Coaxial speakers in a car are coaxial emitters installed in one housing . That is, there is a bass (most often mid-bass) speaker, and midrange and/or high-frequency emitters are installed directly on it, instead of a cap.

This arrangement of drivers is a great space saver . But the sound quality, with other comparable parameters, will be worse in comparison with component acoustics. The main difference is that coaxial speakers will not give such a natural scene.

Building a high-quality imaginary scene inside a car is an almost impossible task. After all, the listener is not at all in the center, relative to the emitters. This can be solved by delay settings on the amplifier or radio, but, whatever one may say, these are “crutches”.

All of the above does not mean that coaxial speakers in a car are a bad choice . There are very worthy models that provide excellent sound for the money. For most car audio lovers (those for whom it is not enough to simply listen to the radio from a standard system, but for whom audiophile delights are also alien), this type can be considered the first to be considered.

It's simple, you have emitters that reproduce more or less all frequencies (except the very bottom) in one housing, which will not take up much space, even if the woofer has a large diameter.

Broadband speakers in cars

From the name it is clear that in broadband speakers in a car, 1 speaker is responsible for all frequencies . A good broadbander is not easy to find. In any case, given the complex geometry of the car interior, noise, etc., wideband car speakers are a compromise.

This type wins in price and size, but loses in sound quality to other options . Suitable for those who are not satisfied with standard speakers, but don’t want to mess around with them at all. We just install broadband speakers for the car in the doors and that’s it.
