Subwoofer Mystery active

The Mystery active subwoofer will give you the opportunity to improve the sound in your car. The speaker produces a decent level of bass, deep and clear. In this article we will look at several Mystery buffers, including the Mystery mbv 251a active subwoofer. In addition, information will be provided regarding active subwoofers in general and their special importance in car audio systems.

Advantages and disadvantages

How to connect an active Mystery subwoofer

The most important advantages of this active subwoofer are the following functions:

  • It is equipped with a built-in amplifier, due to which an even higher sound level is achieved.
  • This device is very compact in size.
  • Thanks to the quality characteristics of this speaker, it is possible to reproduce sound with clear low frequencies. At the same time, due to this, the frequency of the sound will be slightly increased, which is why it will be clearer.
  • The speaker costs very little - only 2500 rubles. But despite the price, it is very reliable.
  • Its sale began in the Russian Federation in 2012. That is why purchasing such a device will not be difficult, since it is now quite common.
  • And although the device has a very compact size, the sound quality can be called very good. That is, the subwoofer (see How to make a subwoofer: practical tips) has excellent sound output.

How to connect an active subwoofer Mystery

It has a stylish design (although this is not so important, because it will still have to be “hidden” under the seat). However, due to this, it can be placed near the rear window without any problems

But in no case will it affect the overall style of the car. The body is aluminum and very durable. As a matter of fact, you can be convinced of this only once you see this speaker.

Remote control that fits directly on the steering wheel

  • The sub has an overload and power-on indicator, thanks to which the user can always understand whether the device has already booted up or whether it needs to wait a little longer.
  • Suitable for any car as the speaker is universal.
  • It is easy to connect, but this requires special knowledge.

This device has few disadvantages. But still they exist:

Connecting a subwoofer is specific, so you will have to tinker with it a lot.

There is an active sub Mysrety MBB-302, it was in 5k and played well there... so I decided to leave it when selling 5k. And after installing it in 2110, I became disillusioned with it.

There is no deep bass that I love. The idea came up to make it a FI (he himself is a ZY), and perhaps then connect it to another amplifier.

What do you think? did this give any results? will I get deeper bass? and louder? And is it possible to find the parameters of the speaker somewhere without opening the housing of the existing subwoofer ahead of time?

did this give any results? will I get deeper bass? and louder?

here is a quote (from https://www.peps.ku.ru/bluesmobil/sub.html): What is the reason for the negative attitude towards ready-made subwoofers? MT: As a rule, the manufacturer saves on materials, in short, on cost. “Boxes” are produced mainly by “narrow-eyed” music lovers. In general, all this affects super quality. And there are no speakers with the same characteristics. Therefore, it is much more profitable, if not too lazy, to take everything separately.

Vitaly: A small example from my own experience. A friend had a 12″ kicker in a factory box, bought assembled. It was stupidly bought for $200 on the market. Then they began to figure out why he didn’t sing. We took the head off and looked! The box is assembled from 15 mm chipboard. There are no stiffening ribs, it’s glued poorly, in short it’s full of shit, but the outside was so beautiful

Connection

Mystery active subwoofer how to connect

Connection can be made in several basic ways. Moreover, each of them is original.

Connection according to low level of knowledge

Mystery active subwoofer connection diagram

In this case, the connection itself is made by connecting the linear input of a special amplifier (see How to connect an amplifier and a subwoofer to a car radio: you are your own master) to the subwoofer input. This input is called “stereo”. Once connected, inside the amplifier these signals are either mixed or transferred to 2 different amplifiers.

High level connection

The speaker inputs of the device are connected to the amplifier input. In this case, you cannot touch the built-in amplifier. Both outputs coming from the amplifier's speakers are connected respectively to the outputs available on the device itself. Speaker inputs have special terminals, which make switching easy and simple.

Mystery active subwoofer connection diagram

You can also connect a subwoofer yourself. The step-by-step instructions, which are sold in the kit, offer many photos with the help of which even an ignorant person can complete this process. In addition, you can familiarize yourself with a variety of videos on this topic, of which there are a lot on the Internet. The price of home installation will be much lower than that offered in car services.

Setting up the Mystery subwoofer in a car

How to properly set up a Mystery subwoofer in a car. The system must be connected to power before adjusting the powered bass speaker's amplifier settings. Setting up the Mystery active sub is performed in two stages. First, adjust the “Gain” control. This adjustment is not a volume level setting, but allows you to coordinate the car radio and the active low-frequency speaker. On the head unit you need to put a recording of a musical fragment with clear sound. Heavy rock, where musical instruments sound with distortion and various electronic effects, is not suitable for this purpose. You can use a recording of a classical piece performed on an acoustic guitar. First, the Gain control on the amplifier is set to minimum. The volume control of the radio increases the sound level until distortion appears. The level is then reduced until a clear sound appears. Then turning the “Gain” control towards increase also achieves distortion. After this, the regulator is shifted to the left until they disappear. The matching of the radio and amplifier is complete.

To fine-tune the “Mystery” active subwoofer in the car, you need to select the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter and set the “Bass” control. If LPF is available on the head unit, then it is better to use it. It is not recommended to include two filters. The low-pass filter cutoff band depends on the audio band that is reproduced by other speakers in the car. If they operate in the middle band, then the suppression frequency must be taken higher. It could be 150-200 Hz. When the speakers reproduce bass notes well, you can “cut” lower in the range of 50-60 Hz. The “Bass” control provides an increase in low frequency gain up to 18 dB. This setting must be used very carefully. If you raise the bass frequencies too much, the sound will be distorted, and the output stages of the amplifier will be overloaded. There is an opinion that it is better not to touch this regulator at all.

Connection instructions

Before connecting the Mystery active subwoofer, make sure that all the above parts are present. You can buy them at auto stores.

Installing an audio device can be done in several ways. Choose the one that you think is simpler and more convenient. It should be taken into account that active and passive subwoofers have their own installation features.

For car enthusiasts with a low level of knowledge in electronics, the following connection option is suitable:

  1. Select the location where the Mystery sub will be located. It must be placed in such a way that nothing muffles the sound while listening. Also make sure that the device is not too close to the rear passengers, as this may cause some inconvenience.
  2. Supply power to the subwoofer. It would be optimal to power it directly from the battery. If it is not possible to connect the device in this way, you can do it through the cigarette lighter.
  3. When connecting the subwoofer, ensure that the polarity of the wires is observed. You should also take care to install a fuse on the “positive” wire, which will regulate the voltage during sudden load changes. Without a fuse, the audio system may be damaged.
  4. Connection to the radio occurs using a standard “tulip” or screw power contacts.

Another connection method involves using an amplifier (for passive subwoofers):
  1. Installation of the device begins with power. The negative wire must be connected to the GND terminal of the amplifier. Its other end is connected to some part of the car body. Be sure to insulate the connection with electrical tape. If wires connected from several pieces are used to connect the power, make sure that the “negative” wire is thicker than the “positive” wire. The latter must be connected to terminal +12 of the amplifying device. Don't forget to install a fuse.
  2. After power supply, connect the audio device to the Remote terminal. Most often it is located in the head unit system. In a similar way, you can synchronize turning on and off the radio and amplifier.
  3. Then connect the radio and amplifier using RCA cables.

Connection via amplifier

Having understood how to connect the Mystery active subwoofer, you can perform a similar operation with a passive device. This type of work involves the use of a special amplifier, which is connected to the subwoofer. Thanks to this additional element, the volume limit will increase and the sound quality will improve.

  1. One end of the negative wire is connected to the GND terminal on the amplifier.
  2. The opposite edge of the same power cable is connected to any part of the car body.
  3. Contact points are carefully isolated.
  4. The positive wire is connected to terminal +12 located on the rear panel of the amplifier.
  5. A fuse is installed on the power cable.
  6. Find the Remote terminal on the amplifier and connect the subwoofer to it.
  7. Using an RCA cable, connect the amplification device to the radio.
  8. Check the reliability of the connection and begin setting up the acoustic equipment.
  9. To do this, insert a disc into it (included in the Mystery subwoofer kit) on which a test melody is recorded.
  10. After the sound starts, turn the volume down to minimum and begin adjusting the settings.
  11. As soon as the sound becomes “clear,” increase the volume and retest the device.

Lada 2108 Dream › Logbook › Repair of Subwoofer MYSTERY MTB 300A

I got a sub at a low price, no need to say that it’s like wow, it would be better if I took another one, etc., I know it myself, and later, as I accumulate finances, I want to switch to a budget type of Kicks, so, back to the topic, having connected it, I heard bass plus wheezing on any volume and setting, well, I don’t think I will call the seller, although he guaranteed that the sub is working and removed from the car, that is, there is no question of any breakdowns, but in reality it’s not like that, it means we have a sub, with the symptoms of a sick amplifier, we remove the speakers first and connect it to another amplifier, and if the speaker plays well, at any volume, then we remove the amplifier and inspect it

First of all, we inspect the integrity of the part; in my case, 2 resistors and a zener diode (diode) appeared to be overheated (you can see in the photo)

and we don’t go straight to desoldering them, but do the following: we desolder each element one leg at a time and call (in my case, all these elements are working, so I didn’t have to change them) on the resistors I have on one 330 kOhm approximately, on the second about 440 kOhm, but this is not important (I told those who had it burnt out, so that the store could tell which ones to buy), but the diodes should ring, but only in one direction (we connect a multimeter and look, there are indicators, then we change the wires in places, and in this position there should be no reactions, as it was zero and remained, without any jumps), if, having checked everything, we are convinced that everything works, then we solder them back, and we climb further, namely to the mikruha (operational amplifier op-amp) called LM324N is on a small board, and we change it, I didn’t run to the store because it was night, and I was too lazy, I unsoldered it from the UPS of the computer’s uninterruptible power supply

The most important element of the speaker system

This is the name given to any buffer, which is the most important element not only in home audio systems, but also in car kits.

Active subwoofer mystery mbv 301a

It will be useful for the user to become familiar with key subwoofer terms:

  • Frequency range. Typically expressed in Hz. This buffer range can be divided into several octaves, including deep, mid and high bass. The approximate range of indicators is as follows: 20-40/40-80/80-160;
  • PDK (crossover frequency (see Calculation of crossover for acoustics on your own)). A very important term. Thus, the quality of the transmitted signal depends on the FDM;
  • MPP - sound pressure at peaks or simply the maximum volume of the buffer;

Active subwoofer mystery mbb 655a

  • Sensitivity, expressed in dB. The best sensitivity in car acoustics is considered to be approximately 90 dB. The higher this indicator, the more it does not allow the built-in amplifier to be operated at extreme powers, it makes it possible to more easily carry loads and produce a higher sound pressure;
  • Woofer diameter. Also a very important indicator, expressed in mm or inches.

Subwoofer active mystery mbb 20a

To understand sound frequencies more clearly, we present the most common ones.

Male bass or tenor, Hz120-200
Female voice, Hz200-500
Noise from the street, Hz20-300
Music at a distance, Hz500-3000
Mosquito squeak, Hz16000-20000

Interestingly, the problems of producing reliable bass begin in the 20-400 Hz zone. To ensure high-quality low-frequency sound in this range, the creators of acoustic systems have to use large and heavy drivers, the size of which also determines its mechanical rigidity.

Subwoofer active mystery mbb655a

We also focus on the design of the buffers, which at first glance is deceptively simple. Most often, the box is a cube made of various materials (plywood, MDF)

A woofer is installed inside. If the subwoofer is active, then a powerful amplifier is also installed, operating in the frequency range of 20-500 Hz.

Characteristics of the Mystery subwoofer

There is such a thing as acoustic design. Both active and passive subwoofers can have different designs. Today, the following are widely used:

  • FI – box with bass reflex;
  • ZYa – closed box;
  • Infinitely large screen (mostly used for experiments).

Mystery subwoofers have the following main characteristics:

  • The speaker is small - only 1 x 200 mm.
  • It can reach a power of up to 200 W, but this is its maximum value.
  • The diffuser has a diagonal of 8 inches, which is due to the fact that it is made of Kevlar and Nomex.

  • Equipped with a magnet weighing 425 grams. Actually, this is what determines the overall weight of the device.
  • The voice coil measures 1.5 inches. It is made of aluminum material.
  • The cutoff frequency can be completely adjusted. Its values range from 40 to 160 Hz.
  • Can reproduce frequencies within the range of 30-200 Hz.
  • It is possible to adjust the bass level using the remote control.

  • Concave centering washer;
  • Screw type contact terminals;
  • The lead wires are flat. They are glued inside the centering washer and provide maximum reliability.

Subwoofer Mystery 250 a active

I liked everything about this subwoofer. According to the manufacturer's recommendations, one ZY and one bass reflex are manufactured. As for volume, 23 liters is considered the best for ZY, and 27 liters for FI. The length of the tunnel should preferably be 33 cm and a diameter of 8 cm.

Easy way to connect

Connecting the Mystery active subwoofer is done in two main ways. One of them is suitable for beginners, and the other is for professionals. When choosing the best option, you should evaluate your own capabilities, as well as your ability to perform such work.

Subwoofer connection procedure:

  1. A place is found in the car interior where the device will be located. Experts recommend placing the subwoofer so that passengers sitting next to you do not experience inconvenience from the loud sound emanating. However, it is prohibited to install the equipment in places where it will be obscured by any object. Otherwise, the sound quality of the melodies will decrease.
  2. Using power cables, connect the subwoofer to a power source (battery). If it is not possible to use this option, then connect the device through the cigarette lighter.
  3. A fuse is installed on the positive wire. This is necessary to ensure that a sudden surge in voltage does not damage the elements of the audio system and render it inoperable.
  4. The connected subwoofer is connected to the radio using double-sided RCA cables (“tulips”).

How to set up an active subwoofer in a car

To properly configure the Mystery active subwoofer in the car, you must first install it in the selected location. The precise adjustment of the parameters depends on the location of the speaker. All models of active speaker systems of this brand have a standard rear panel, so connecting and configuring different models is no different. On the left side, the first is a rectangular “Highinput” connector. This is a high level input. It is designed to supply a low-frequency unit with a signal from the output of a car radio. This signal is intended for operation of built-in speaker systems, so it goes directly to the final stage, bypassing the pre-amplifier. Next is the “Remote” connector. A remote power regulator for the low-frequency channel can be connected here using a special cable. In order not to lay extra wire in the car, this adjustment is usually not used.

The “Lowinput” connector is designed to supply an audio signal from the linear output of the car radio to the ULF input. It is a low-level input, so the signal passes through the pre-amp path. The input has two channels “Left” and “Right”, which are made on “Tulip” connectors. Next are the basic settings of the low-frequency amplifier. There are only three of them in the Mystery acoustic system:

  • Gain – min-max
  • LPF – 40 Hz-250 Hz
  • Bass – 0 dB-18 dB

The "Power" LED indicates that the power is on, and the red "Prot" LED lights up if the amplifier's built-in protection has tripped. Power to the active low-frequency system comes through a standard automotive “Power” connector. Voltage + 12V and GND (ground) are supplied to the marked contacts. The “REM” remote control wire is connected to the same connector. It is designed to turn on the power to the amplifier simultaneously with the car radio.

KIA Rio 2015 dry asphalt › Logbook › Schematic diagram of the UMZCH Mystery MTB-250A

I wondered: how to connect an active subwoofer to a balalaika that does not have a line output.

I found on the Internet many (in principle, the same circuit) options for “reducers”. It became interesting how these voltage dividers (and that’s what they are) differ from the one that is built into the UMZCH of an active subwoofer. Let’s go, look for a fundamental one circuit of an audio frequency power amplifier (UMPA). Fortunately, I’ve had a soldering iron since I was in sixth grade. And I quit doing electronics when it was time to feed my family))) but I can read a little circuit diagrams. Here is a link to the circuit diagram for the amplifier of my Mystery. Take whoever needs it

In general, it’s like this: inside there is absolutely the same voltage divider as the one in the boxes we sell. (But I don’t really like the presence of 100 microfarad capacitors in the divider, although they should allow bass through)

So we don’t show off, but pull the wires from the rear speakers into the trunk, and the wires from the radio, which controls the activation of the subwoofer itself. That’s it.
