What headphones are best to buy for a computer?

Computer sessions are rarely limited to a few minutes - most often the time varies from a couple of hours to the whole day. Therefore, when choosing headphones, you need to be guided not only by sound quality, but also by ease of use.

The list will not include a single in-ear model or in-ear headphones, because they are the least comfortable and, even in theory, are not capable of providing sound at the level of full-size or even on-ear headphones.

Just a few years ago, wireless models could not compare with wired ones, but now the difference is almost unnoticeable, so it makes sense to buy cordless devices.

  • In most cases, it is more convenient to use Bluetooth headphones, since rarely does anyone sit more than 10 m from the computer.
  • When purchasing gadgets with a radio channel, you get freedom of movement within a range of 100-150 m, but the headphones themselves greatly lose autonomy.

You need to choose the headphones themselves based on the usual indicators: the range of reproduced frequencies (usually 20 Hz - 20 kHz is enough), resistance, microphone quality, but do not forget about additional features. This could be battery life, if the headphones work wirelessly, the presence of noise cancellation features, and perhaps even design.

How to choose gaming headphones?

Despite the similarity of characteristics that are indicated in the specifications, each model of gaming headphones sounds different. Because of this, people who are not versed in audio technology may have problems making a choice. Below are the main points you need to pay attention to.

Gaming headphones have additional requirements. A good model should:

  • Produce clear sound in the mid-frequency range without requiring additional equipment.
  • Handle bass without overload during explosions and gunfire.
  • Helping gamers accurately determine the position of sound sources in the game world - this requires high-quality 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound emulation.
  • Transmit the player's speech to his fellow players without interference.
  • Do not create discomfort after 2-3 hours of use.

Some gaming devices can rival the sound of headphones designed just for listening to music, but you'll have to pay extra for similar sound quality.

The sound of headphones is affected by several basic parameters: frequency range, sensitivity, impedance and nonlinear distortion.

In any case, it is better to choose models that completely cover the range of frequencies audible to the human ear - from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Headphones with a high frequency that goes beyond 20 kHz hide playback defects beyond the threshold of audibility. The greater the headroom in the upper frequencies, the cleaner the sound.

Sensitivity largely determines sound volume. For comfortable listening, 100 dB is enough, although in different models there are values from 90 to 120 dB.

Be sure to pay attention to impedance. The greater the resistance, expressed in Ohms, the stiffer the speaker membrane and the less vibration it makes that spoils the sound quality. The norm for gaming headphones is an impedance of 50 Ohms, high-impedance models - more than 100 Ohms - are considered professional and are used in studios.

Total harmonic distortion shows how far the sound wave shape is from an ideal sine wave. The lower this value, the clearer the sound. The recommended figure is less than 1%.

Some headsets have noise-canceling technology that filters out background noise for clearer audio. This is a useful feature even if the headphones are only used in a quiet home environment.

An important indicator of quality for gaming headsets is the convenience and comfort of long-term wearing, because gaming sessions sometimes last for 7-8 hours, or even longer:

  • Headphones should be light, since the neck will quickly get tired if you wear models heavier than 400 g. It is worth choosing headsets made of plastic or light aluminum.
  • The ear pads and headband should have a soft covering, preferably made of fabric with good ventilation.
  • Another plus is the adjustable design with movable cups. If you wear glasses, you should consider buying headphones with special grooves in the ear pads.

A microphone is a fairly important element of a gaming headset. In cheap models, the voice will sound “out of whack”, unintelligible or too quiet. The last problem can be solved by increasing the volume in the settings of the application where communication is taking place, for example in Discord.

Some microphones come with a mute button that mutes your voice when you need to take a break from the game. If the headset will often be taken on the road as regular headphones, then a good solution is to take a model with a detachable microphone.

The best gaming headphones for computer

Headphones for gamers most often do not have any special features except for a catchy design. Although, increasingly, manufacturers are trying to make them more universal in order to attract more consumers.

HyperX Cloud MIX

HyperX Cloud is a fairly old and well-known series of headphones from a well-known manufacturer of accessories for gamers.

A special feature of the MIX model is the absence of wires. At the same time, the manufacturer positions it as wired, only reminding that it can also be used in a cordless version.

The headphones are still compact, lightweight and equipped with a detachable microphone, which makes them an ideal device, including for daily use outside the home.

Cloud MIX is Hi-Res certified, supports aptX and reproduces frequencies from 10 Hz to 40 kHz.

The emphasis is on bass, which sounds good in games. In addition to the removable microphone, there is another one - built-in. It provides excellent sound quality, eliminating all extraneous noise.

Advantages:

  • Simple, non-aggressive design;
  • Compact and lightweight;
  • Can work wirelessly for up to 20 hours;
  • High-quality sound;
  • Comfortable ear pads;
  • Excellent microphone with noise reduction.

Flaws:

  • High price;
  • Short charging cable.

These headphones are quite expensive, but they are Hi-Res certified, support aptX and have an excellent microphone. The model familiar to many has become even better, since it has learned not only to work wirelessly, but also to do it for quite a long time.

Audeze is a well-known American manufacturer of headphones, which also includes very expensive models for audiophiles. Mobius is a device for gamers.

The main feature of these headphones is their isodynamic drivers, which differ from the usual dynamic ones. When reproducing a sound image, they convey even more detail.

Although Mobius are positioned as gaming headphones, they can be recommended even for picky music lovers. Their range of reproduced frequencies is simply unrealistically wide: 10-50,000 Hz.

In wireless mode, the headphones work for a little less than 10 hours, but the sound quality also drops, so it’s better to listen to them via wire.

Advantages:

  • High quality sound through the cord;
  • Comfortable ear pads;
  • Detachable microphone;
  • Work without wires;
  • Hi-Res and virtual 7.1 sound.

Flaws:

  • 8-9 hours of battery life.

One of the first wireless headphones with isodynamic drivers, high-quality design and from a trusted manufacturer are quite worthy of the title “a gamer’s dream.”

Users have a very mixed attitude towards Razer devices. Some believe that the manufacturer creates high-quality premium accessories, while others suggest that it simply purchases from China and decorates the products with green symbols. But the popularity of these headphones cannot be denied.

Kraken X can only work via wire, so the microphone is not detachable here. But they are light and relatively compact. Like other gaming headphones, the Razer Kraken X has an emphasis on low frequencies, although highs sound good too. The headset supports virtual 7.1 sound.

Advantages:

  • Recognizable design;
  • High-quality sound;
  • Not a bad microphone;
  • Very light;
  • Virtual 7.1 sound;
  • Reasonable price.

Flaws:

  • Mediocre quality of plastic.

Not the most expensive, but recognizable headphones that can hardly be confused with anything else. The fragile body material is compensated by excellent sound, but it is better to use this accessory only at home.

Another representative of the famous series. This model is an updated version of Arctis Pro, which can now work wirelessly. Outwardly, it is difficult to say that it is positioned as a game. A fabric tie is used for adjustment - unusual, but original. The microphone is hidden in the left cup.

The headphones also work with a wire. With this connection, a special docking station is used, which is responsible for software sound settings. There's also no punchy bass like typical gaming models. Arctis Pro sound rather universal.

Advantages:

  • High-quality sound;
  • Easy to use;
  • Universal design;
  • Retractable microphone;
  • Wide range of customization options;
  • Replaceable battery included.

Flaws:

  • 8 hours of operation from one battery;
  • Mediocre microphone.

A beautiful and good-sounding gaming headset that can be used outside the home without any problems. A single charge lasts only 8 hours, but the kit includes a replaceable battery that will provide the same amount of time.

The middle model from the updated line of the gaming manufacturer received a very laconic design. A tape is used to adjust the headband, and there is a backlight on the outer sides of the ear pads.
