A dozen receivers and receiver-transmitters with AptX codecs

To make the development of CSR867x easier, the CSR867x training board has now been launched in collaboration with Sidu Technology.。

BlueBrowsing is a Bluetooth broadcaster that supports Bluetooth audio streaming for local playback and supports displaying information about the song currently playing.

The AVRCP protocol can be used to transmit song information.

You need to set up two AVCTP channels between the CT and TG control channel and the viewing channel.

GetItemAttributes in certain AVRCP commands uses the view channel to transfer media information:

The attribute ID in the above table is shown in the following table:

The CSR8675 receiver routine supports AVRCP browsing. You need to change the project properties, recompile and run:

The block diagram of the system is as follows:

The main functions are:

  • Audio I2S output, master mode, sampling rate 44.1K
  • Support serial port, output song name, singer, song lyrics, song duration, playback progress
  • Support serial port to control mobile phone playback, pause, up and down songs
  • Support SBC, AAC, AptX, AptX-HD decoding

Appearance and Controls

FiiO BTR5 looks very stylish, like an expensive accessory. This is largely achieved through double glazing - the top and bottom of the device is covered with 2.5D glass.

The device is covered with 2.5D glass and has a tiny screen

The back is also covered with durable glass.

At the bottom there is a USB-C port for charging (yes, we are almost in 2022, by the way), at the top there is a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones and a balanced 2.5 mm one.

Can be charged using a cable from a MacBook

Added balanced output

All control buttons are located on the right side: there is a volume rocker, a hole for a microphone, and a power button along with a control button. The latter is used, for example, to enter pairing mode, select a listening format, turn on/off the equalizer and configure other functions. All actions are duplicated on a small screen. By the way, this very “smart” button is responsible for playing and pausing, calling the voice assistant and many other functions. And the volume rocker can scroll through tracks with a long press.

Control buttons are conveniently located and easy to touch

In the box, in addition to the receiver itself, you will find instructions, a warranty card, a USB cable for charging and use as a DAC, and a special clip case for wearing it on clothes or anywhere else.

Connectivity and sound

Like most modern devices, btr5 can be connected to two sources and quickly switch between them. There is also a Fast Pair mode in Android: to pair with a compatible phone, you need to press and hold the control button, and then tap on the notification that appears on the smartphone. But iPhone owners don’t really need this, so we open Bluetooth in the settings “the old fashioned way” and connect.

The device connects via Bluetooth in a couple of seconds

The following headphones were used for listening: Audio-Technica, JBL, EarPods (yes!) and others. Let’s say right away that the difference compared to normal playback is audible even when listening to tracks from Apple Music, including with older EarPods (with a 3.5 mm connector). But the BTR5 shines best with more premium headphones and lossless compositions.

You can connect headphones to both jacks

It’s better, of course, to connect something from Hi-End

It is better to connect to btr5 IEM, and if you deal with full-size headphones, then only low-impedance and high-sensitive ones. You must understand that this is primarily an accessory, and it will not replace a full-fledged audio player, but if you want to improve the reproduced sound, you will be pleasantly surprised by the result.

FiiO BTR5 - the new flagship of the line

Previous similar FiiO devices were quite warmly received by the market - one of our editors still uses the BTR1, and the µBTR was a very good model. But it's time to move on, and now the recent favorite in the form of the BTR3 Bluetooth amplifier has been pushed to second position. Now FiiO has a new flagship, one of the main innovations of which is a pair of ESS ES9218P chips, which replaced the AK4376A from Asahi Kasei Microdevices.

Although Qualcomm's CSR8675 chip is still responsible for wireless communications, it supports the latest version of Bluetooth 5.0. Plus, there is an XMOS XU208 chip on board, so this device will handle even the highest quality “digital” - 384K/32bit - without any problems. Well, and support for DSD256, of course, what would we do without it. For FiiO this has already become a kind of calling card.

Having finished the audiophile moment, let's talk about the main difference that everyone will definitely notice - albeit a small (0.49-inch diagonal) OLED display! I can’t say that it is so necessary for such a device, but the presence of a screen will definitely make it understandable to most.
