Do you work with music, adjust melodies, equalize frequencies? Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones make the work of a DJ or composer easier, as they perfectly accurately represent sounds without hiding flaws or smoothing out nuances. Users speak positively about the comfortable ear pads, high-quality sound transmission and a long cord, citing minor drawbacks as disadvantages, which will be discussed below.
Design and fit
The headphones look impressive: metal body, massive ear pads. They also have quite a bit of weight, but they don’t put much pressure on your head. The metal headband is hidden under a leather pad with rivets.
If necessary, it can be removed and washed. The height of the headphones is adjustable, adjustments are made in steps of a few millimeters, so everyone can choose the optimal size for themselves.

The ear pads are oval and completely cover the ear. Since they are made of fabric, they can let sound out, but only slightly. Fabric pads can be removed and washed or, after a certain time, replaced with new ones; a set of new ear pads at the moment (2018) costs from 2,000 rubles, according to the owners. Just remove the ear pads carefully, the fabric is very thin.
The cable that connects to the transmitting device is not removable.
In different modifications, the lace differs in appearance:
- in 250 Ohm headphones - a twisted cable, similar to a telephone one;
- In the device for 80 and 32 Ohm, the cord is simple, straight.
Reviews Review
The cable is dense and heavy. Moreover, so much so that people note that the cord pulls the head down by the earphone. The same wire connects the headphones along the headband, hiding under the leather pad. The main advantage of this density is its high strength; there is not a single complaint that the cable is torn or broken at the point of attachment to the plug or speaker.
The mini jack plug is straight, gold-plated for better data transfer. The kit also includes a 6.3 mm adapter for connecting to professional musical equipment. For headphones at 32 Ohms, a cable 1.6 m long is designed, and for a device at 250 Ohms, a cable 3 meters long is designed.
Choosing a pair
The testing technique included listening to several test tracks in two passes. First, each headphone was turned on with a different device, and then each device was listened to with all four headphones. Thus, each track was played twice, but in one case the quality of the headphones changed, and in the other the quality of the amplification. Processing the data obtained made it possible to identify the contribution of each participant to the sound and get a general idea of the mutual compatibility of headphones and electronics. The main set of audio files were either 16-bit/44.1 kHz or 24-bit/96 kHz, with each device playing an MP3 file for comparison.
Features of use
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones are available in three versions with different impedances: 32, 80, 250 Ohms. The difference in configuration is insignificant, but in the type of use it is of a certain importance. The higher the impedance, the more demanding the device is on the transmitting device.
If headphones with an impedance of 32 Ohms can be safely used with mobile devices, enjoying fairly high-quality melodies, then models with an impedance of 250 Ohms must be connected specifically to professional equipment.

Full power
You can get maximum quality from headphones only in one case: with the help of a sufficiently powerful and high-quality amplifier. For this purpose, the Beyerdynamic A20 model was chosen. This is the younger of the two branded amplifiers, quite suitable as an addition to Node 2.
Compact desktop amplifier to match the source. It won’t take up much space, but essentially it’s real Hi-Fi without reservations or compromises
The amplifier is made in an aluminum housing and has fully discrete transistor circuitry and an analogue ALPS volume control. The headphone outputs are connected in parallel; in fact, they are two connectors connected to one output stage. But most importantly, this amplifier provides 170 mW of power per channel into a 250 ohm load, which means it should be able to handle the vast majority of headphones.
Music playback quality
It is for the high-quality sound that the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones receive rave reviews from their owners. But when buying this device, you need to be prepared for the sounds. What you hear from the speakers will not be ideal at all.
They will correspond to reality! If the singer is out of tune, you can immediately “catch” the wrong note. If the melody is recorded in disgusting quality, compressed to the limit, you can listen to disgusting screams.
It’s just that the device transmits music realistically, which is why it is so highly valued. The musician has the entire stage at his disposal in expanded form. And thanks to headphones, he can make the melody perfect, bringing together all the vocal and musical stripes, bringing instrumental parts to naturalness and volume.
Based on reviews from professionals:
- “The sound is simply amazing: perfectly clear sound, wide stage, big and deep bass. Not all music sounds comfortable, as the headphones are very sensitive to the source. The amplifier helps to unlock the potential of the headphones and enjoy the sound.”
- “You can hear the slightest nuances, sometimes you even want to turn around and see if someone is playing a drum kit behind you or playing an accordion part on the side. Just crystal clear sound, perfect stage. I connected it to the Cayin N5 portable player, compared it with Sennheiser, from Sony - all the headphones fall short of this detailed reproduction.”
- “At high volumes there is no distortion. But the vocals are not expressive, a little drowned out by the sound of the instrumental parts. The bass is deep, not overloaded, balanced. The detail makes the scene feel real.”
- “Sensitive to recording quality, but also great for mixing tracks. The bass is not pumped up, the sound is detailed. They allow you to hear all the imperfections that regular headphones smooth out. There is noise insulation, but the most comfortable one is in the 250 Ohm model.”
The main thing to consider is that it is better not to work with bass in these headphones, since low frequencies are not transmitted quite correctly in them. As a last resort, use an additional sound source for correction and debugging, ideally good speakers.
Beyerdynamic Custom Street: middle class
The Beyerdynamic Custom Street model represents the on-ear headphones in our test. These are lightweight, compact, foldable headphones that are comfortable to wear every day. They are equipped with a fairly thick and elastic cable with a straight connector and a remote control headset. To connect the cable to the headphones, there are two identical 3.5 mm jacks on the left and right ear cups. They are equivalent, the cable can be connected from the side convenient for the user. And you can connect another headphone to the free jack so that, for example, your friend can listen to the same music as you. At the same time, it is desirable that he have another Custom Street or other headphones with similar electrical characteristics.
Beyerdynamic Custom Street headphones are equipped with 8 pairs of double-sided inserts with 16 original pictures, and if you unfold the standard aluminum insert, you can make your own engraving on it
The headphones are supplied with a convenient, durable zippered case, but the main feature is a set of decorative inserts for the earcups, with which you can transform their appearance.
The sound and acoustic design of the Beyerdynamic Custom Street can also be changed. To do this, each cup has special three-position regulators that change the operating mode from closed to semi-open with two different outlet diameters. In closed mode, there is a minimum of bass, but the sound of the mids and tops feels smooth, almost monitor-like (albeit with not the highest resolution). When the ports are opened one notch, the headphones become noticeably bassy, the midrange in the area of low male voices becomes muted, and in the upper midrange, on the contrary, a bright accent appears. At maximum opening, all the above effects are boosted, and the headphones turn into a powerful bass machine, which only a truly powerful amplifier can cope with.
Overall, I would rely mainly on their dark (bass) side and use them for hip-hop, dance and pop music.
Price: 9,490 rubles
Advantages: design, compactness, comfortable fit, replaceable cable
Disadvantages: when opening ports, the sound is noticeably colored
conclusions
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones will be appreciated only by people who work with music professionally. You won't be able to listen to MP3s from your phone on the way to work; watching movies is also not a pleasure for everyone.
But this device will help you parse the melody note by note and make the piece of music perfect. In their price segment (up to 10,000 rubles) these are the highest quality headphones for working with sound.

The iDX 200 iE headphones played smoothly and comfortably, with a clear midrange and an adequate amount of bass. I did not notice any obvious coloration of the sound. On some compositions, control in the low-frequency region was lost, but in most cases the sound was collected and focused. Good detail and dynamics. The difference between MP3 and FLAC is obvious from the first notes; it was difficult to notice the Hi-Res quality.
The closed-back Custom Street played dryly, but the tonal balance was even. The detail is comparable to that present on the iDX 200 iE, but the sound is duller and less rich in timbre. Opening the ports to the first division gave a comfortable and full sound with moderately forced but booming bass. We opened the ports to full - we got more boom and less control of low frequencies, the middle became duller.
Custom One Pro Plus in closed headphone mode. The tonal balance is smooth and there is enough bass if you listen in a room without background noise. On simple music there were no complaints about the sound. On a more complex and richer level, it became clear that the smartphone itself does not provide as much sound information as headphones can reproduce. Familiar compositions were poorly reproduced; there was not enough air, scale and depth of the stage. The bass controls could be manipulated completely freely. There were no significant overloads even with the ports fully open. Despite all the advantages, there was a feeling of lack of power; on heavy and fast music, the headphones sounded restrained and leisurely.
T1 was sorely lacking in power; at the maximum volume of the control, the volume was no more than average. The tonal balance was smooth, the sound was quite detailed, and there was enough bass. There was a wide, open and well-designed stage. As for the dynamics, there was no pressure and fullness.
Conclusion: the choice of headphones is quite wide, but when the smartphone does not have special powerful amplifiers, it is better to avoid full-size and especially home headphones, as well as models with above-average resolution.
Recommended model: Worked best with Custom Street and iDX 200 iE. Using Custom One Pro Plus is acceptable, but with such headphones, sooner or later you will come to the idea of buying an external amplifier, or even better, an audiophile smartphone or player.
