External Hi-End digital-to-analog converter DAC 1.0 SE Art. DAC 1.0SE
The external digital-to-analog converter MS audio laboratory DAC 1.0 SE is an improved version of DAC 1.0. Every circuit design in this DAC, from digital inputs to analog outputs, is optimized to produce the highest possible sound quality. The MS audio laboratory DAC 1.0 SE DAC can be connected to a CD or DVD player, DAT player, CD transport or any other digital signal source via 4 inputs: 2 digital coaxial 75 Ohms (RCA), 1 digital 110 Ohm (XLR) and 1 optical (Toslink). The DAC uses a proven chipset manufactured by Cirrus Logic and Texas Instruments (Burr-Brown): CS8416 – low-jitter digital signal receiver; SRC4192 – upsampler with wide dynamic range; PCM1793 is a DAC chip supporting 24-bit resolution at sampling rates up to 192 kHz. The output of the MS audio laboratory DAC 1.0 SE DAC has gold-plated connectors for balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) connection of devices. The distinctive features of MS audio laboratory DAC 1.0 SE include the following: 1. Each cable input is provided with transformer galvanic isolation, which allows you to get rid of “ground” circuits through cables connecting to digital signal sources. 2. The DAC uses a proprietary analog filter, which makes it possible to organize balanced and unbalanced output of equally high quality. The output analog filter also contains specially selected discrete J-FET field-effect transistors and high-quality OPA2111 (AD648) J-FET operational amplifiers. 3. The analog output of the DAC operates in Class A mode, which ensures excellent linearity. 4. There are no coupling capacitors at the output of the DAC 1.0 SE (there were in the DAC 1.0 model), which made it possible to improve the processing of low frequencies. 5. In the DAC 1.0 SE power supply, the topology of the filtering and voltage stabilization circuit of the analog part has been changed compared to DAC 1.0. 6. In the digital part of DAC 1.0 SE, the reference oscillator circuits have been changed. As a result, the stability of its operation has been increased and the timing accuracy of the DAC chip has been improved. 5. The analog and digital parts of the DAC 1.0 SE are located on two separate printed circuit boards and are equipped with separate power supplies, which minimizes their mutual influence. All components used in the device undergo preliminary testing and rejection. Field-effect transistors are selected in strict accordance with the specified technical characteristics. The power supply contains a specially designed custom toroidal transformer with a low stray field. For accurate signal transmission, all signal circuit connections are made with high-quality copper wire. The DAC body is made of steel and painted with black powder enamel. The front panel of the device is made of Corian® artificial stone produced by DuPont® (USA). By purchasing MS audio laboratory DAC 1.0 SE, you can be sure that even old and well-known recordings will find a new life.
* Included with the DAC 1.0 SE you can order cables for connecting the digital-to-analog converter to digital signal sources (coaxial, balanced) and to an amplifier (balanced, unbalanced).

[11/16/2021] The problem of powering a High End audio system cannot be solved without providing power with clean mains voltage. The use of a specialized surge filter allows you to isolate the audio system from sources of interference in a 220 V network, protect it from possible strong impulse noise and short-term voltage increases and, as a result, reduces the likelihood of failure of expensive audio components. The mains audio filter MS audio laboratory PF 2.0 (Art. PF 2.0), in addition to filtering interference, provides elimination of a constant component, the presence of which can cause high background noise or humming of a power transformer. The new PF 2.0 device will provide high-quality clean power to audio devices with a current consumption of up to 10 A. The presence of a voltage drop compensation circuit on the filter allows you to power audio devices with mains voltage without drawdown, thereby ensuring excellent dynamics. The model is equipped with an overcurrent protection circuit for each output. Switching of the supply voltage is carried out by powerful electromagnetic relays. The surge protector's carbon fiber faceplate features a stylish digital output voltage indicator. What types of digital-to-analog converters are there?
Without the use of sound converters, the user will not be able to enjoy music recordings in digital format. The problem is that most of the built-in DACs that are found in almost all media-enabled electronic devices are not good enough in terms of playback. Simple DACs will add a high noise level, will not be able to read high-resolution files, etc. That is why the use of an additional device is an important upgrade to any high-quality audio system, regardless of its composition.
There are many types of audio converters from digital to analog format, depending on the shape and overall dimensions, functionality and number of inputs and outputs. First of all, there are:
- portable devices;
- desktop or stationary DACs.
Portable converters are connected directly to a computer or phone, are compact in size and have a relatively inexpensive price. They do not require separate power and, as a rule, are equipped only with a headphone jack and a line output for connection to an audio system.
A more functional and expensive option are desktop or stationary converters. They are much larger, require a separate connection to the power source, and also have a wide variety of inputs and outputs. Connecting to a digital device source can be done using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Such converters support many types of audio files and have a built-in volume control.
In addition, DACs are divided depending on the maximum bit depth, which characterizes the number of signal levels at the output. The higher it is, the better the sound reproduction quality. There are models with the following capacity:
- 16 bits;
- 24 bit;
- 32 bit;
- 64 bit.
Among the other parameters that can be used to classify a DAC, it is worth highlighting the number and type of inputs and outputs of the device, the maximum sampling frequency, the type of signal encoding (DSD or PCM), etc.
