How to identify the cause of the problem

When a hiss appears in a wireless headset, the first thing you need to do is determine what exactly the problem is: in the headphones themselves or in the device to which they are connected.

Mechanical damage

The headphones need to be inspected from all sides for dents, cracks, chips, damage to the case, ports, and control buttons. You need to connect them to other devices and check the sound. If the noise continues, the problem is most likely in the headset itself. You can fix this problem yourself (if you have knowledge in the field of electrical repair) or at a service center.

Low charge

Bluetooth headphones are a device with a portable battery. For uninterrupted autonomous operation of the gadget, it requires regular recharging. When the battery level is low, sound quality may suffer. You should start looking for the cause of a headphone malfunction by checking the charge level.

How to remove noise and interference from headphones - first fully charge them, then check the sound. In most cases, this simple operation solves the problem of poor sound.

Interference from other devices and household appliances

The crackling sound of contactless headphones can occur when devices emitting electromagnetic waves are operating nearby.

This can be caused by noise from switched-on gadgets or other Bluetooth devices, as well as from running household appliances.

To determine the cause of interference noise in headphones, you must:

  • turn off devices, appliances or move as far away from them as possible;
  • try again to play the sound in the headphones;
  • If there is no improvement, reboot the wireless headset.

Damage to the headphone cable.

First, we check the condition of the cable. It must not be interrupted or damaged.


This often happens, and the reasons can be very varied: the cable can be crushed by furniture, or stepped on with a heel. Pets can chew, etc.

There is one interesting point. Laptops usually have one audio jack, but the system unit usually has two. One of them is on the front side, the second is on the back. It is much more convenient to connect in front, but this may add additional hiss . This is due to extension cords and adapters. At the back of the system unit, the audio output is directly connected to the sound card, and by connecting a gadget to it, the sound quality improves.

If the cable is intertwined with other wires, noise may occur in the headphones. The cables should be carefully positioned, away from each other.

This is not particularly relevant for smartphones, but is useful if you are using headphones with a PC or laptop, which may have multiple audio jacks.
  • If everything is correct, but the noise is still heard, try connecting through a different slot (if available).
  • To make sure that the problem is with the headphones themselves, try connecting them to another device. If they are still noisy, they will have to be repaired or replaced. Otherwise, the problem lies in the playing device - check the ports and settings of your smartphone or PC again.

Testing headphones on another device

  • problem with the device (smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer);
  • in the wireless headphones themselves.

To determine that the cause of white noise in the headphones is not their technical condition, we try to connect them to another sound source. If the noise disappears, then the gadget is in order, and you should look for another reason.

3. Fix cracking noise in headphones due to a faulty connector on the PC

You tested the headphones on another source and understood

that the problem is not with them: when connected to a computer they hum, but when connected to a telephone there is no noise. Then we begin to check for possible faults in the PC. Let's start with the simplest and most obvious - a broken connector.

We connect the headphones to another connector . Usually there are at least 2 of them: on the back panel of the case and on the front. If the headphones are noisy in both cases, move on to the next step. If it works in another, it’s easiest to use it. Repairs can be tricky.

Why might the connector break? There are several options: “loose”, bad “Chinese” soldering of contacts (ring grounding, some contact just fell off, became exposed, etc.), mechanical damage (someone pulled the wire in this connector too hard), poor internal shielding of the wires for this connector and more. It also happens that the plug does not fit completely into the connector, but this is easy to notice.

Lack of grounding

Home sockets that do not have grounding are quite common. Headphones, like a computer in general, are very sensitive to the quality of electrical power, so problems may arise in their operation.

The correct solution to this problem is to ground the outlet, if possible. You won't be able to do this on your own. This requires an electrician and time.

Energy saving mode

Modern laptops and smartphones have several power consumption modes. They monitor the savings in the use of electricity, thereby extending the operating time of equipment on a single charge.

When you enable power-saving mode, the OS gives priority to certain hardware over others. Headphones are considered secondary, as they are not necessary for the correct operation of the device. As a result of the redistribution of electricity, the headset experiences constant interruptions, which affects the sound quality.

To determine whether power consumption mode is causing interference, follow these steps: In the device’s power settings, check the box next to “maximum performance” and restart it. If after this the problem does not disappear, you should look for a solution elsewhere.

Volume level of sound sources in the sound card

The source of sound interference may be additional connection inputs available on the sound card. They should be turned off, similar to how we did with the microphone.

It happens that headphones have a volume control. An additional regulator is also available in Windows and in the application we are currently using. It is important that all volume controls are set to maximum and final adjustments are made using a hardware control.

Driver problem

When the drivers are not installed at all, there will most likely be no sound at all. It is possible that the drivers are installed, but not the right ones. This will cause the sound card to malfunction, resulting in noise in the headphones. The same situation often occurs after relocating Windows or updating it. At the same time, she reports that there is a problem with the drivers.

To diagnose this problem, you should open the “Audio Outputs and Audio Inputs” tab in Device Manager. If there is a conflict, yellow and red exclamation marks will appear opposite the devices. If they are absent, then there are no serious problems.

Method 5: Changing the sample rate

In the sound card driver settings for the speaker, you can set one of the sampling rates. This option controls audio processing and may not work correctly if you select an option that is not compatible with your hardware. This theory can only be tested by changing the parameter, which happens like this:

  1. Go to the “Device Properties” menu (how to do this is shown in the first step of the previous method) and open “Advanced device properties”.
  2. In the new window, switch to the "Advanced" tab.
  3. Expand the drop-down list with all available default format options and select one whose sample rate is slightly lower than the current one.

Computer power saving mode

In Windows, you can select several operating modes regarding the electrical power mode. Initially, the operating system operates according to a balanced power supply scheme. With its help, at low loads on hardware units, it is possible to reduce electricity consumption. This option is optimal for laptops. As for a desktop computer, this does not matter in its operation, since it works with a constant connection to the network. But if this mode is still turned on, then some of its devices may operate in a gentle mode, and this may lead to a problem such as noise in the headphones.


To fix this, simply select the “High Performance” mode in the “Power Options” item in the Windows Control Panel. After this, it is advisable to restart the computer. If interference was present due to the power supply mode, it will disappear immediately.

Complete phone solutions

Try updating the operating system to the latest version (Settings - System - System Update). If this does not help, you can try resetting the Bluetooth connection settings. To do this, in “Settings”, find “System” and go to the reset section. First, reset the Bluetooth, Internet and Wi-Fi settings. After this, you can try resetting application configurations on your phone.

If you use phones from Xiaomi, then their proprietary firmware has such a bug. When you connect the headphones, a window appears where you must uncheck the “Allow access to contacts and call log” checkbox.

Noise in headphones when connecting third-party USB devices

Whatever device is connected to the computer’s USB port, it is automatically connected to the power supply. It may happen that such devices are poorly designed, have poor build quality and can create interference that manifests itself as noise in the headphones. This happens mainly when connecting powerful and fast devices that require a large amount of electricity. The next step is simple:

We disconnect everything connected via USB ports one by one and check if the interference has disappeared.
