High frequency (HF) speaker with beryllium dome in Moscow

The Russian-language segment of the Internet is filled with laudatory reviews, articles and reviews of Yamaha monitor acoustics. This refers to acoustics of the NS (Natural Sound) series with numbers 500, 700, 1000 and above and always with the letter M at the end.

I couldn’t buy myself a Yamaha NS1000M to revel in the promised heavenly pleasure. I bought 500M. Now I’m going to break all the rules of dramaturgy and say that...

I bought it with great enthusiasm and was very relieved to sell it.

This is where the story can end, right? For those who are really interested in why I did such a rapid somersault with changing shoes in flight, get ready for a long and ragged story.

So, Yamaha monitor speakers. Almost all the mainstream sources around us assure us of the undeniable superiority of the NS1000M. Everywhere I came across the epithets “the best acoustics”, “excellent speakers”, “nothing more to dream of”, well, the idea is clear. I was especially impressed (this is not an advertisement, but if the employees of the Control Panel are reading and watching me, let’s talk). I liked how clearly and succinctly they described this speaker, quote:

“...this is a speaker system that has remained the benchmark in both the studio and home segments for a full decade. The YAMAHA NS-1000M is one of the few speakers that has received recognition from both the picky audiophile press and sound engineers around the world. According to experts from Stereophile magazine, the NS-1000M is the most popular high-end speaker system in the twentieth century. Many music lovers and audio engineers believe that it was this speaker that became the conceptual founder of the Hi End concept.”

Great quote I think. Despite the harmonious chorus of voices unconditionally praising this acoustics in RuNet to the skies, I was alarmed by two points:

  • 1) almost complete absence of critical reviews in the same RuNet
  • 2) a completely different tone of reviews of these acoustics in the specialized professional press in the USA. It was important for me to read about this in reputable magazines, and not in fragmentary posts from hipsta bloggers. So the tone there is calm and without aspiration. They say that the acoustics are good, but one of them.

It is clear that America is not a decree for Russia, but it seemed to me that there was some obvious imbalance here, and it is not so easy to figure it out. I began to research the topic more deeply and began by studying the same thing more deeply (guys, you haven’t forgotten, I’ve already promoted you for the second time
