Finally, I was able to test the new full-size Xiaomi wireless headphones with support for the “correct” codec aptX.
Alas, today such are still rare: the age of the codec has not made it popular enough among developers, since it requires licensing fees in favor of Qualcomm , which owns the development.
So Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Headphones (TDLYEJ01JY) , also known as Mi Bluetooth Foldable Headset , have every chance to be an excellent choice. Moreover, they are created on the basis of some of the most comfortable headphones.
And the price tag is humane. Let's take a closer look?

Sound
I tested the headphones with iPhone 6 and Galaxy S7 smartphones. I would call the sound of these headphones neutral. In comparison with the Philips Fidelio NC1, the sound is less clear and sonorous, which on the one hand is good, since you get tired of the excessive crystallineness of the Philips over time. There is no bias towards low or high frequencies, the headphones play quite smoothly. The bass is clear, not blurred, but there is one peculiarity. When listening at low volume, about 20-30% of the maximum, which is more than enough for a quiet room, there is not enough bass. But as soon as you turn up the volume to half or higher, the bass appears, and it’s quite good. By the way, the headphones are loud enough, there are no problems with the volume in the car or in ground transport; unfortunately, there is no way to check it in the subway. The sound insulation is not bad; there is no active noise cancellation in the headphones.
aptX
To check aptX support, go to the developer menu of the Samsung Galaxy S7 phone and select the bluetooth audio codec item there. The default was SBC, select aptX and the sound is transformed.
In fact, the difference is not strong, but it is there. High frequencies become cleaner and sound detail improves. This is most noticeable on classical and instrumental compositions. I didn’t notice any difference in sound between AAC and aptX, and the headphones don’t support other codecs. Paired with an iPhone, the headphones performed no worse, apparently in this case the AAC codec is used.

Delivery, packaging
The headphones were delivered in 18 days by Dutch post.
They were packed in a box made of thick cardboard, in which, wrapped in a layer of pimply polyethylene, lay a branded box with headphones. The latter did not suffer at all as a result, which is good if the headphones are bought as a gift. The headphones come in a white box with a transparent window through which the headphones can be seen. The design is minimalistic, like other Xiaomi products.
There is nothing on the front except for a couple of inscriptions:
On the side edges there are mi logos:
On the back, in three languages, there is information about the headphones:
By removing the transparent plastic insert, we gain access to the headphones:
There are stickers where the headphones come into contact with the transparent cover to prevent the headphones from being scratched during transportation.
Peel off the wide tape and take out the headphones themselves. In the lower compartment there are instructions:
There is no micro-USB cable for charging included, but I think for most this will not be a big problem.

Equipment and design
The headset comes in a small box along with extra earbuds, a short charging cable, and instructions (in Chinese).
Having opened the box, you immediately notice the very simple design of the Mi Headset, by the standards of headsets. There is some kind of stick or tube looking at you from the box.
The shape of the case is close to an ideal cylinder, the dimensions are similar to an AAA battery. At the back there is a traditional protruding part with a speaker protected by mesh.
There is a small slot on the front of the headset that hides the microphone(s) and activity indicator. The latter may flash blue or red, depending on the status of the device.
At the bottom there is a standard microUSB for charging, at the top there is a single control key.
As we have already noted, the earphone looks very simple, the body is plastic, painted with a special matte paint. According to the manufacturer, this coating is excellent at resisting fingerprints and is durable. We agree with the first, the headset really maintains a neat appearance, but the second is difficult to check.
The headset comes in two colors, black and white, both look good.

Conclusion
What can I say in the end? The build quality was disappointing. Some of the cheapest plastic Philips, which I bought about 15 years ago, were free of such problems. If the reviews on the Internet really don’t deceive, then it’s just my copy that was unsuccessful. I’m not particularly aware of the favorites in terms of autonomy among similar headphones, but I consider 10 hours at maximum volume and 20 at medium volume a very decent indicator. I am also pleased with the ergonomics, high-quality microphone and aptX support. As for the sound, it costs about 40 bucks, and for $65-70 there are better options. Thanks to all.
