One of the significant advantages of modern game consoles is that you can quickly and, as a rule, connect accessories and other devices to them without any problems. Gone are the days when you had to additionally purchase peripherals with proprietary connectors from the manufacturer. Now we have the ability to connect almost any device. Nowadays, preference is given, of course, to wireless Bluetooth devices. If you have a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4, the process of connecting, for example, wireless headphones, will not take much time and effort.
Connecting Bluetooth headphones to PS4
First, let's look at how to connect wireless headphones to the PS4, a console that has better functionality and higher quality graphics. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Turn on the power of the device and enter the Menu.
- Go to Settings, and then Accessory Device Settings.
- Enter Bluetooth management.
- Wait for the equipment to connect to the system.
- Enter the code that the equipment will request (usually 0000).
- Wait for the switching process to complete.
- Return to the Accessory Device Settings section.
- Click Audio Device Settings.
- Change I/O functions.
From the list that appears next to the items, find Bluetooth headphones and tell the system that they need to be connected to the PS4 by default.
During the registration process, please note that an access code may not be required. In this case, follow the instructions in the menu.
Before you connect Bluetooth headphones to the PS4, remember how many devices are already connected to the console. If registration is not possible due to reaching the limit, select unnecessary devices and unlink. To do this, click Options, and then click on Forget devices. More information on using the Bluetooth module can be found in the operating instructions.
Connecting Bluetooth headphones to PS3
Like the PS4, the PS3 system is equipped with a built-in Bluetooth module, which allows you to connect Bluetooth headphones. This means that when you perform some actions, you can output audio to your headset using a wireless connection.
To connect Bluetooth headphones to your PS3, turn on the console and enter the menu. Next, take these steps:
- Find Settings and go to Accessories Settings.
- Find the Manage Bluetooth Devices section.
- Click the Register button... BT.
- Turn on the Bluetooth headphones and complete the connection operations following the instructions. On some devices you need to press and hold the button until Bluetooth turns on.
- Go to the synchronization section. To do this, find the Start Scan option. The system finds a device with Bluetooth enabled (if it operates in a certain range).
- Find the headphones you want to connect to your PS3.
- In the PIN code entry window, enter four digits. Alternatively, you can find them on the Internet or enter standard combinations (0000, 1234).
This completes the work process. Knowing how to connect bluetooth headphones to the PS3, you can quickly transfer sound to the device. After finding the headset you want, go back to Accessory Settings, find the Audio Device Settings feature, and enter the Output Device feature. There, enter the name of the Bluetooth headphones. Do similar actions in the Input Devices section.
What a delay
Sony boasts next-generation graphics, stunning sound, immersive tactile experiences, and you can only connect headphones that are compatible with the Sony PS5. The problem is more subtle than just corporate greed.
Latency Express
The main benefit of all PS compatible headphones is that you will get high quality chat audio with low latency audio output. The headsets use a proprietary data transfer mode using an electronic dongle instead of Bluetooth. This is a legitimate issue and Bluetooth with its limited bitrate causes latency. These are the main reasons why Sony's own WH-1000XM3 and other Bluetooth headphones are not supported by PS5.
PS-compatible headphones either take the wired route or use a USB dongle to provide wireless connectivity. So if you're someone who doesn't care too much about latency and just wants to use your existing pair of AirPods, there are a few ways to connect your headphones to your PS5.
Special connection tips: what you need to know
As you can see from the above article, connecting Bluetooth headphones to PS4 or PS3 is not difficult. But you need to remember the following points:
- Compatibility issue. First, check the Bluetooth version, which is given in the description of the Bluetooth headset. It must be 2.0 and higher. If this number is lower, you will not be able to connect the device. The best option is to use a Sony headset, which is designed for the console.
- Using the method discussed above, you can connect Bluetooth headphones to PS3 or PS4 consoles. However, you will not be able to get full functionality. In other words, the user will only hear conversations in chats and menus, but the game sound will come from the TV.
To solve the issue, you need to connect bluetooth headphones to the TV. The following options are available here:
- using built-in bluetooth in TV;
- via 3.5 mm cord;
- using a bluetooth receiver;
- via USB adapter.
The last two options deserve the most attention, to which we will pay special attention.
To connect bluetooth headphones through the receiver, follow these steps:
- Connect the set-top box to the TV using an HDMI cable through the connector.
- Connect the console through a special socket.
- Connect the receiver and set-top box by pressing and holding the Power button for a few seconds.
- After obtaining the expected result, turn off the block and curling iron.
- Turn off the unit by long holding the Power button.
- Repeat the action that was done above. The power indicator will start flashing when the transmitter enters pairing mode.
- Connect your Bluetooth headset. If everything went well, a special sound appears.
Some TV models find headphones automatically, which saves time on activating the audio output yourself. If this option is not provided, go to the TV settings, and in the menu, find the port to which the unit is connected. After that, activate it. If everything is connected correctly, sound from the PS3 or PS4 comes out of the Bluetooth headphones, including the game.
Another option is to connect audio using an adapter (connects like a regular USB cable). Here's the algorithm:
- connect the adapter to the console input;
- start connection mode;
- enter the console menu and find the Settings section;
- in the list above, find Devices, and then Audio Devices;
- in the last section, find Audio output device using USB headphones;
- look for the column Output to device, and then All sounds;
- connect the headset to the Dualshock.
Now check for sound. Please note that using a USB adapter will not allow you to send voice messages while playing. To communicate with other gamers you will have to use a joystick.
Kinds
Headphones for PS4, PS4 Pro and other models can be divided into 2 large types: wireless and wired. For games, either a mono headset or a stereo headset can be used. At the same time, headphones with surround sound effect are especially popular. This sound is possible in both wireless and wired versions. Headphones are divided into varieties, depending on the configuration.
Droplets. These are vacuum headphones that can be used for gaming. Silicone ear pads ensure a tight fit to the ear canal. This provides passive noise insulation. During the game, the user will not hear external sounds.
Wireless
The models are well suited for active players who are completely immersed in the dynamics. Typically, wireless headphones have a rather original design. Gaming models are often supplemented with lighting. Among Sony products, the Platinum headset is the most popular. Headphones can be either with or without a microphone. The first option allows you to not only hear the sounds of the game, but also communicate with your teammates. The main advantages of wireless headphones are as follows.
No problems with cables. It is worth noting that the wires limit the gamer’s movements and often simply deteriorate. Modern and interesting design. Indeed, wireless headphones are often designed as impressively as possible
This is especially important if the model will be used not only at home alone. The built-in batteries of gaming headphones provide impressive battery life. Usually the charge lasts for 6-12 hours or more. You can move away from the monitor to any distance
Gamers often play on the move, captivated by the visuals. Wireless headphones allow you to fully enjoy your vacation.
This type of headset cannot be called ideal. There are also disadvantages.
Additional hardware components make the headphones heavier
This is quite important since gamers use the headset for long periods of time without interruption. The price is an order of magnitude higher than in the case of wired headphones. This is assuming the sound is the same. The need to monitor the battery charge level
If the headphones unexpectedly discharge, then this is, at least, unpleasant. Many models additionally support a wired connection, which will allow you not to interrupt the game. However, this feature is still a disadvantage.
There is an opinion that wireless headphones sound worse, but this is not entirely fair. In fact, modern models use advanced technologies. They, together with software components, allow you to maximize signal quality. As a result, the headphones are able to delight users with surround, rich sound.
Wired
The proven technology has been well known to everyone for years. These headphones are easy to turn on and do not require such fine adjustments as wireless ones. Models can be with or without a microphone. The main advantages of this type of headphones.
- Weight and size. Many models have powerful sound with small dimensions. This is due to the fact that there are no batteries or communication modules inside. Even full-size types have a comfortable and lightweight headband.
- Lack of built-in battery. Headphones cannot suddenly run out of charge and stop working. However, it is worth understanding that the headset is powered by energy from the device to which it is connected.
- Value for money and sound. For the same price, these headphones have better playback quality than wireless ones.
Some models have a detachable cable. So, if it gets damaged, it can be replaced without any difficulty. However, wired models still have disadvantages.
- The cable gets tangled and the plug breaks. Of course, this is a relative disadvantage. You can choose a model with a high quality wire, and even a removable one. This guarantees not only a long service life, but also quick replacement. Moreover, such headphones are not always compatible with the set-top box. You will have to additionally purchase an adapter for the plug.
- Binding to the signal source, inability to move freely. Wires can also get in the way when playing. However, this is a relative disadvantage. Many are willing to put up with this for the sake of high-quality sound and convenient design. Gamers should prefer models with long wires so that they can sit comfortably in front of the monitor.
- Less impressive design. Typically, such models do not have special LED backlighting and are made in more classic forms. However, this is not a rule, but only a pattern.
