I’m not a fan or an ardent admirer of MYSTERY, but it so happened that I bought MYSTERY by accident; at that time I was not interested in the manufacturer, but in the fact that it had navigation, and all this was relatively cheap. And I got the sub kit from my uncle, for which I thank him very much.

So what do we have and what needs to be connected.

Sub out (RCA)

I don’t know why, but for some reason the manufacturer decided to make the sub output with one tulip, and not two (as is often the case). Faced with this problem, I decided to consult with the seller (a well-known VEGA store in Perm). To which the seller told me, given that there is only one way out - you need to install a splitter.

That is, we take a classic interconnect RCA cable 5 m long and use only one of the 2 wires and connect it to the splitter

the black tulip will hang out, maybe if I change the GU and there will be 2 outputs for the sub, it will come in handy.

Thus, what goes with the splitter goes to the amplifier

and the second end to the dark green tulip GU (SUB output). All interconnections are completed.

Next are the power cables. I read in the instructions for the harness that the power wires should be 4Ga. And in stores this MSK-12 subwoofer kit includes wires with a cross-section of 6mm^2. Although the cross-section of 4Ga should be 21.2 mm^2. Already the manufacturer has discrepancies in instructions and production! In the same store, the same seller showed me that a 4Ga wire costs 330r/m. But I need 6 m (5 for + and 1 for -), to put it mildly, I was not ready to pay 1950 rubles for 6 meters of good wire. To which the seller offered me a more budget-friendly option.

In the photo, I think you can see the list, the power section of 9mm^2 is of course not 21 mm^2, but it’s better than 6 mm^2

Well, here it’s already clear and just 5 m of red, we end one end with a ring terminal and put it on heat shrink (included in the kit) and hook it to the battery (+). After 30 cm into the gap we install a 30A fuse with a housing (also included in the kit).

We also terminate the other end of the red cable with a Y-shaped terminal and hook it to the amplifier at (+)

Types of low-frequency audio speakers

A subwoofer is a sound speaker designed to reproduce improved quality of low frequencies that are not available to conventional audio speakers of standard car equipment. Subwoofers are divided according to their types:

The active subwoofer comes with a built-in power amplifier to remove low frequency loads from the main car audio amplifier. And also, its own crossover (a device for dividing frequencies into high, mid, low, etc.), which simplifies the coordination of the subwoofer with the acoustics of the standard radio.

A passive subwoofer does not have a separate (personal) power amplifier and is connected to standard speakers. Which, as a result, negatively affects the sound quality of the car's stereo system and causes additional overload on all output channels. As a result of this, the volume and dynamics of the sound decrease.

What is the functionality of the radio?

The fact that there is a standard radio in the domestic car Lada Granta Lux and in Kalina-2, and the devices are constantly being improved. A special feature of the radio is that it fits deep into the standard place, which is accompanied by minor difficulties when removing it. The schematic diagram of low-frequency speakers of both active and passive types is almost the same, with the exception of small additions related to non-active subwoofers.

The process of turning on a car radio with a passive subwoofer is very simple: it is connected directly to the amplifier, which, in turn, is connected in series to the car player.

The role of the standard amplifier in this circuit is to transmit the signal received from the sound of the playback device (car radio) to speakers with high and low resolution frequencies. Where the subwoofer itself acts as a converter of low-frequency signals, and its satellites act as a converter of high-frequency signals.

Due to its rather large dimensions, the installation of the subwoofer is carried out mainly in the luggage compartment of the car and the power supply wires have to be pulled through the entire cabin to the battery. Which does not improve its (interior) appearance.

Not active subwoofer

You can connect a passive subwoofer to a radio without an amplifier in 4 steps.

  1. Through the technological hole in the engine compartment we stretch the supply wire to the battery. We install a fuse on the positive (plus) wire closer to the battery.
  2. We pull the wiring into the cabin and stretch it to the trunk, if possible disguising it under the interior trim parts.
  3. We insert the wires through the finished technical hole (if necessary, we make it ourselves) into the trunk of the car. And we connect directly to the low-frequency speaker, according to the diagram (+ to +, - to -).

Removing the radio on Grant

The entire dismantling process will take no more than one minute if you have already removed the radio before. If this is the first time for you, then minor difficulties may arise only with finding the necessary elements by touch if the radio is not pulled out in the usual way.

Procedure:

1. Remove the plastic trim of the center console. To dismantle the MMC, it is not even necessary to remove the cover completely; it is enough to unclip only the upper latches using a screwdriver, a small knife or a spatula.


2. Slightly pulling back the upper part of the plastic trim of the center console, press out the MMC latches, which are located on the right and left. To prevent the latches from “settling” into place, you need to slightly pull the MMC towards you.


3. Having released the clamps, we remove the MMC from the niche.

What to do if the wires interfere with the removal of MMC?

If the cables going to the MMC block prevent you from pulling it out, then you need to disconnect them. To do this, just do the following:

1. Lower the glove compartment lid down and disengage the upper latches.

2. Stick your hand into the opening and disconnect the interfering cables

Please note that not all MMCs currently have a USB cable installed that goes into the glove compartment

The radio has been dismantled, now you can connect additional equipment to it, replace it with another one, or simply find out the model of your MMC by the sticker located on the rear panel.

  3. The volume of the radio can be controlled using the multifunction steering wheel, but you won’t find buttons for switching tracks here; you still have to reach out to the screen.
  4. USB devices are read quickly, but the flash drive must be in FAT 32 format, and the maximum memory capacity cannot be increased beyond 32Gb.
  5. The standard IGO navigation program may begin to slow down when driving. Stutters may occur when entering an address. There is no way to change the map scale with your fingers: control only with buttons.
  6. Navigation map updates are quite expensive, especially since maps in Russia are not of the best quality. Free map updates are performed only once after purchase within three months from the date of device activation.
  7. The lack of line outputs means that connecting an amplifier and subwoofer in one minute will not be possible. You will have to solder the line outputs or connect the amplifier and subwoofer to the rear speakers.

Of the biggest drawbacks - the inability to play video, there is a decent solution. Firmware will help solve all these problems.

In general, it is clear that the XRAY MMC leaves only pleasant impressions with its functionality; there are shortcomings, but they are not particularly significant.
